Affectionately known as "Ed", he graduated from Central High School and upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. and was Honorably Discharged on June 28, 1962.

After serving his Country, he started working with the United States Postal Service and retired after more than 30 years of service. He loved sports, in particular the University of Notre Dame. He also enjoyed golfing, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed his visits to Georgia, and watching his grandchildren participate in athletic events.

In 1959, he married Janice B. Slater; from that union two sons were born, Rodney E. Love and Patrick J. Love. Ed moved his young family to Windsor Hills, California where he quickly became an integral part of the community. Ed was hired by the Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation Department and assigned to Roosevelt Park. Ed mentored many young men and women while at Roosevelt and remained active with various youth programs and activities at the park until he moved to South Bend, Indiana in 1991.

On Sunday, September 11, 2011, Ed's mission was completed and upon a whisper of an angel, he departed this earthly life and was called home to be with the Lord. He was 76 years old. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work and service.
