Sara Jeanne Davidson (Talbot)

Sara Jeanne Talbot

November 28, 1936 ~ August 24, 2022 (age 85)

Sara Jeanne (Davidson) Talbot passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 in Indianapolis, IN, at the age of 85.

She was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Harold L. and Princess L. (George) Davidson on November 28, 1936. Sara resided in Waterloo, IN, and Auburn, IN, before her parents settled in South Bend, IN, where she lived most of her life. She graduated from Central High School. Sara then graduated from Indiana University at Bloomington and eventually earned a master’s degree (plus) in education at IUSB.

Sara married Dennis W. Talbot in 1957, and together, they raised three daughters: Katherine Talbot of Lansing, MI; Tracy (Andy) Feeney of Avon, IN; and Peggy (Lance) Streitmatter of Granger, IN.  Dennis preceded her in death in December 1982. Surviving are her loving daughters; her grandchildren, Megan Feeney, Eric Streitmatter, and Sean Streitmatter; her sisters, Karen Sale, Donna (Jim) Sweet, and Cheryl Turner; along with a large extended family.

Sara taught English and Spanish in South Bend at both John Adams High School and St. Joseph High School. She then taught Spanish and Cultures at Grissom Middle School, concluding her career at Southwestern Michigan College teaching English as a second language. Sara loved teaching and particularly enjoyed chaperoning groups of students to Spain and Mexico.  She also studied abroad, living in Mexico for a month and Spain for a few weeks, to become an even better teacher. After retiring, Sara spent time in California for a few years, but returned to South Bend to be closer to family.

Sara was a member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, with Deacon status, for many years.  She then joined Unity of Michiana Church, where she has been a member for over 30 years.

Dennis and Sara traveled extensively while married, which she relished. She also traveled with her daughters, including to Alaska and Hawaii with Kathy. Sara’s extended travels included Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada, Spain, and almost all US states. Sara also spent over 50 fun years at Birch Lake in Michigan—boating, swimming, playing with her grandchildren, and always beating the entire family at Trivial Pursuit!

Sara loved to read and play bridge. She also loved to watch Jeopardy and was a contestant on the show in 1971. Her favorite pastimes were being with her daughters in any capacity, spending time with her grandchildren, and lunching with her sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, September 9, 2022 at the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. Rev. Sandie Vanik will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00am-3:00pm on Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.
