Maryann Wilson (Franklin)

Maryann Wilson Franklin

OCTOBER 20, 1937 – NOVEMBER 19, 2016

In the early morning hours of November 19, 2016, Maryann Wilson Franklin, 79, was ushered into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was at home, surrounded by family who loved her dearly.

Born in South Bend Indiana on October 20, 1937, she is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur W. and Marian F. Wilson and her sister, Joyce Wilson Wharton.

Maryann graduated from Central High School in South Bend, Indiana and the University of Indiana with a B.S. in Elementary Education. While attending IU she was a proud member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and met the love of her life.

A devoted wife and mother, she dedicated her life to serving her family and others. Maryann lived a grace-filled life of purpose and passion. She truly exemplified the fruits of the spirit found in Galatians 5:22. Maryann’s love of God’s Word and strong desire to give young children the Biblical foundation they need to love God led her to spend many years in children’s ministry. She served as a Sunday school teacher and program coordinator at Westover Church in Greensboro and the Village Church in Barrington, Illinois. Maryann was thrilled and honored to be part of the group of women who launched Bible Study Fellowship in Greensboro in the early 1980’s, serving as the preschool coordinator. In later years, she delivered Bibles for Gideons International and faithfully visited shut-ins through her church.

Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, Norman Duffy Franklin; daughters Karen Knox (Tom), Lori Duhan (Nathan), and Julie Andrews (Dave); 8 grand children; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces and 2 nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, November 21 at Hanes Lineberry at 515 N. Elm Street, Greensboro. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 in the Lineberry Center at Hanes Lineberry on N. Elm Street.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave. Greensboro, NC 27405, who we would like to thank for their loving and professional care of our wife and mother or to Gideons International, Greensboro Northwest Camp, PO Box 19524, Greensboro, NC 27419.
