Patricia Ann Ritschard, 68, of Granger, Indiana, passed away at 5 a.m. Friday, November 10, 2006, in her home, with her loving family at her side. She was born January 22, 1938, in South Bend, to the late Joseph and Ethel (Dekan) Smudey. Pat married Richard L. Kent on November 9, 1963, in South Bend. He preceded her in death in 1980. Also preceding her are her son, David in 1984, and sister, Rose M. Jackson in 1997.

On June 10, 1989, in South Bend, she married Carmelo Ritschard, who survives, along with her son, Steven Kent (Carol) of Evanston, Ill. Also left to cherish her memory are her stepchildren, Sandra Demitruk (Jack) of Osceola, Susan Paulin (Rick) of Mishawaka, Christine Higgins (John) of Carmel, Ind., Deborah Canfield (Brian) of Mishawaka, Jay Ritschard (Judy) of North Liberty and Jeffery Ritschard (Andrea) of South Bend; 12 step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Dolores J. Smudey of South Bend and Shirley A. Alvaro (Dennis) of Honolulu, Hawaii; brother, Leonard Smudey (Debra) of South Bend; two aunts and one uncle of Mishawaka; and four nieces and two nephews.

Pat retired in 2003 from the Masonic Scottish Rite in South Bend after eight years of service. Prior to that she managed the South Bend Shrine for more than 15 years. In addition, she served In a volunteer capacity as the coordinator of drivers and vans br the transportation of children to the Chicago Shrine Hospital and the Cincinnati Shrine Center for over 20 years. She also organized the blood drives for the Shrine hospitals.

Pat graduated from Central High School In 1955 and worked on many reunions, serving as class treasurer for the reunions. She loved to play bridge and golf. She and Carmelo spent their winters in Scottsdale, Arizona, where they played the games she loved so much.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2006, in Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, with Rev. James Miller of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today in the funeral home. As per her wishes, cremation will follow services. Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, 115 South Frances Street, South Bend, IN 46617.
