SOUTH BEND - Grant Ivory Jr., affectionately known as "Jackie", 76 years old, of South Bend, Indiana departed this life on Tuesday, August 20, 2013. He was born February 27, 1937 in Blytheville, Arkansas to the union of Magnolia (Malone) Ivory and Grant Ivory Sr., both preceding him in death. His brother Ethurel (Pat) Ivory also preceded him in death.

Grant Ivory attended South Bend Community Schools, graduating from Central High School.

Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Korea in the Special Forces Unit. He received many awards before completing his Tour of Duty. He was employed by the Department of Defense for many years in Hazardous Waste Management. Jackie received many awards during his career, retiring 3 years short of getting the Presidential Medal of Honor.

On July 2nd, 1977 in Reno, Nevada he married Geraldine (Harris) Ivory, whom he leaves to cherish his memory, along with his sisters, Dorothy Smith of South Bend, Indiana and Carrie Scott of Atlanta, Georgia and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Fond memories shared with special friends Dr. John Buckner, Billy "Stix" Nicks, Oscar "Baby" Jones and Paul Renfro, Jr., along with many others.

Jackie enjoyed playing, listening, and composing music all of his life starting from as young as 8 years old. He served as a board member of the Michiana Federation of Musicians Local 232-278 and was a member of Amvets Post 66.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 in Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2013 in Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 101 N. Adams Street, South Bend.
