SOUTH BEND - Mr. Joseph Husband, age 73, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather & brother, who resided on Byron Drive, South Bend, Indiana, passed away September 9, 2012, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, Indiana. Joseph was born September 12, 1938, in Sunflower, Mississippi, to the union of Wayman and Estella (Plump) Husband, both of whom preceded him in death. Coming from Sunflower in 1942, the family moved to South Bend.

He graduated from South Bend Central High School.

He served as a staff sergeant in the United States Air Force for four years and was honorably discharged in June of 1962.

He was united in holy matrimony to Eloise Smith in 1965, who preceded him in death in 1979.

He worked for Bendix-Honeywell Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of Christ Temple Church of God in Christ, where he faithfully supported the church and actively supported the Helping Hands Program. He was a sports lover of football, golf and basketball. His hobbies were bowling & fishing. He also enjoyed the regular gathering at Lincoln Way Grill Breakfast Club. Joseph always encouraged his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was a mentor to many young men in the family. It had often been said by some of the children that "if they could have chosen their father, it would have been Uncle Joe."

Survivors left to cherish his memory include five daughters, Antoinette (Robert) Jenkins of South Bend, Lisa Schultz, Jovita (Louis) Bland & Hiawatha Husbandm all of Sacremento, CA, and Carmen R. Sanders of Silversprings, Maryland; three sons, Danny E. (Connie) Husband & Joseph A. (Erica), both of Sacremento, CA, and Christopher (Heather) Husband of South Bend; 25 grandchildren & 27 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Howell, Mary Watkins, Ruth Martin, Victoria Husband, all of South Bend, Betty (Albert) Kingsberry of Pomona, CA, and Barbara Tucker of AZ; four brothers, George (Alberta) Husband, James (Rosalind) Husband, Wayman (Gail) Husband Jr. and Rex (Angela) Husband; a special nephew, Jerry Husband; and special friend, Christine Smith, both of South Bend; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Services for Mr. Joseph Husband will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at Christ Temple COGIC. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14, 2012, at Alford's Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary, where messages of condolence may be e-mailed to Alfordsmortuary@att.net, c/o the Husband family.
