Don Powell Ross, 87, of Elkhart, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, in Elkhart after a year-long illness.

He is survived by Barbara Ross, his wife of 46 years. Also surviving are three daughters, Anne Morris (Jack), Rhonda Nelson (Russ Frey) and Laura Cameron, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a nephew, and several nieces.

He was born in Indianapolis to William P. Ross and Doris (Finlay) Ross on Sept. 3, 1934. They both predeceased him as well as three half-siblings and a few nieces.

He graduated from South Bend Central High School, Indiana University in Bloomington, and The Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin.

He began his banking career at the American Trust Company, South Bend, while in high school and continued after serving two years in the U.S. Army Finance Corp. He then began working at First National Bank, Elkhart, and served there for 30 years retiring as a senior vice president.

In addition to several fraternal organizations, he was a one-year president of the Elkhart Redevelopment Commission of which he was a 10-year member. Don enjoyed traveling, Formula One and Indy Car racing, and playing cards, especially Texas Holdem.

There will not be any visitation or service in keeping with his wishes. Cremation will take place and burial will be at a later date in Rice Cemetery.

The family gives many thanks to the entire Hospice staff that was involved in his care.

Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with his care.
