William “Bill” Dean Surguy, 80, of Wellston, Michigan, met his Savior on Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Munson Medical Center, in Traverse City, surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born July12, 1932, in Ligonier, Indiana the son of George Washington Surguy II and Grace Strope Surguy. He lived his early years in South Bend, Indiana, graduating from Central High School in 1950, He owned and operated a family sheet metal business with his brother, George Surguy, until 1965.

After moving to Wellston, Bill worked for several years on the S.S. Badger sailing between Ludington, Michigan and Manitowoc, Wisconsin. He later worked for the Manistee County Road Commission where he especially enjoyed maintaining the summer park below Cooley Bridge on M-55.

Bill’s final employment was with the Manistee County Library where he served for 17 years as maintenance director retiring in 1994.

Since retirement, Bill shared many wonderful road trips with his daughter, Patty. They enjoyed the beauty of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Branson, Missouri and Rapid City, South Dakota, along with visits to Texas and Florida. He also spent time hunting, working in his yard, cheering for Notre Dame Football games and winning at the casinos.

In 1952, Bill married Carolyn Basham. He is survived by: his three children, Patricia Surguy of Wellston, Michigan, Marlene (Philip) Korenstra of South Bend, Indiana, and William (Claudia) Surguy of Plymouth, Indiana; his grandchildren, Jason Lisek of South Bend, Indiana, Jocelyn Lisek Yedlicka of Fenton, Missouri, Gavin Surguy of College Station, Texas, and Noah Surguy of Plymouth, Indiana; his great-grandson, Phillip Yedlicka of Fenton, Missouri; and his nephew, Dr. George (Leanne) Surguy of South Bend, Indiana.

Bill was preceded in death by: his parents; his brother, George Washington Surguy III; and his infant brother, Franklin Delanor Surguy.

Bill was a devoted son, brother and father; and his guidance, love and support will be forever cherished.

Bill’s family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Ryan Sullivan of Manistee and Dr. David Payne of Cadillac, the nursing staffs of West Shore and Munson Medical Centers, Robert and Sheri of Lincare of Cadillac; and for the love and support of Christian friends, Holly Shafer, Mel and Roxanne Ott, Renee Platz and the First Church family.

“Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” I Cor. 2:9

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 31, 2013, at the First Church of Wellston with Mr. Mel Ott officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6-8 PM, at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. Committal services will be held at noon, Friday, February 1, 2013, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in South Bend, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Wellston.

The Terwilliger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
