SOUTH BEND - Michael Geissel Harman, 68, of Olathe, KS, passed away August 13, 2009, in Olathe Medical Center. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, at Olathe Memorial Cemetery, Olathe, KS. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, August 17, in the Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS, 913-856-7111. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc. or to the American Diabetes Assoc. Condolences may be sent to www.brucefuneralhome.com. Michael was born in South Bend, IN, on July 22, 1941, to Walter and Esther Harman.

Mike was a graduate of Central High School in South Bend and served with the U.S. Navy. He was a trooper and sergeant with the Indiana State Police until his retirement in 1989.

He moved to Olathe, KS, and worked as an investigator with Clarence Kelley and Associates and provided security for the Safety and Health Council.

Mike was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Overland Park, KS, Mishawaka Lodge No. 130, F&AM of Mishawaka, IN, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, IN, and the American Legion of Olathe, KS.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter, and brother, Joel Harman.

Mike is survived by his son, Michael C. Harman of Olathe; daughter, Katherine A. Stephens of Trimble, MO; four granddaughters, Heather Harman of Arizona, Anne Johnson, Michelle Stephens and Karlie Stephens of Smithville, MO; great-grandson, Eric Cachon of Arizona; his mother, Esther Harman of Mishawaka, IN; brothers, Frederick Harman of Elkhart, IN, Anthony Harman of Walkerton, IN, Walter G. Harman of Mishawaka, IN, Leroy Harman of Niles, MI, and William Harman of Albion, MI; one sister, Ruth Nowakowski of South Bend, IN; an aunt, Ella Spaulding of South Bend, IN; numerous nieces and nephews.
