MICHAEL S. INFALT

Dec. 11, 1930 - June 11, 2009
SOUTH BEND - On June 11, 2009, we lost a husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Michael was at his home in Trinity, FL, with his immediate family surrounding him for one last family reunion when he left peacefully to be with our Lord. Michael was born on December 11, 1930, in South Bend, IN, to Michael Stephen and Margaret (Wishman) Infalt, who preceded him in death. He began his career in graphic arts at age 14 by sweeping floors at Service Printing Company.

He graduated from Central High School in 1949 and continued in the printing business at Service Printing, working his way into sales where he excelled, eventually earning a partnership in the business. In 1975 Service Printing was sold to Petersen Printing where Michael retired as executive vice president of sales & marketing.

On November 15, 1952, Michael married his beautiful wife, Janice E. Salkeld, who survives. Michael and Janice shared 56 wonderful years together, and his family will hold in their hearts many wonderful and cherished memories of "family." Michael is also survived by his six children, Steve (Judi) Infalt, Lisa (Richard) Landry, David (Chris) Infalt, Mark (Wendy) Infalt, Linda (Wes) Magnuson, Lora (Tim) Tatum; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren will cherish their grandfather's memories. Also surviving are a brother, Robert (Mitzi) in Mesa, Arizona; a sister, Pat (Phil) Levenson of South Bend; a sister, Sue Colby of Fort Myers, FL; and an uncle, Herb (Pepper) Singleton of Medford, OR.

Michael served in the Naval Reserves from 1951 thru 1956 (Korean War 1951-52). He was honorably discharged in 1956. In 1992 Mike and Jan retired to Trinity, Florida, where Michael exercised his passion for golf and making friends. He scored nine holes-in-one during his life; the two most memorable being consecutive aces on the fourth hole at the South Bend Country Club (first during a Wednesday round and the other, two days later, during Friday's round). He was affectionately known as "Iron Mike" to his golfing buddies for the amount of time he spent on the practice range. Michael was a member of the South Bend Country Club and was a lifelong member of the Elks of the USA. He was an imaginative joke teller and is remembered for story telling and the many life lessons he provided to those who were blessed to have known him. When Michael shook your hand and looked in your eyes, you became a lifelong friend. The family will attend a private funeral Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to your local hospice chapter.
