Frank J. Chmilewski, 89, of Granger, Indiana, passed away at Memorial Hospital, following an illness. He was born on June 18, 1931 in South Bend to Frank (Francis) and Theresa ( Mazur) Chmilewski who preceded him in death. On February 3, 1951, in South Bend he married Frieda Zalas. She died October 16, 2015. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Klosowski in 2010.

He is survived by his children: Marcia (Ron) Koelndorfer, Michael (Sue) Chmilewski, and Francine (Scot) Farver; his sister, Bevy Gapinski, who was his most recent partner in crime at The Hearth at Juday Creek, where they were both residents; his eight grandchildren and 17 “Grands”, as he referred to his great-grandchildren (an 18th is due in early 2021). He is also survived by life-long friends as well as new friends.

Frank was a Machinist as the owner of Franks Products until his retirement. His true passion was his music. He shared his love of music with young musicians as well as anyone who was interested. He played electric bass in the dance band “The Continentals” and then more recently with the choir at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Edwardsburg, MI.

Graveside services for immediate family will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. A Memorial Mass and gathering will be set for a later time. The family wishes memorial contributions made to the Edwardsburg Food Pantry through Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
