Forrest James Wolfe

Forrest James “Jim” Wolfe

Forrest James “Jim” Wolfe, 87, residing in Edwardsburg, MI, passed away peacefully at 5:04 pm Monday, April 2, 2018 in Medical Behavioral Hospital of Mishawaka after a three week stay. He was born June 8, 1930 in South Bend, IN to the late Forest V. and Erma F. (Finch) Wolfe.

Jim graduated from Central High School in South Bend and then served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was stationed in Okinawa during the Korean War (May, 1951 - May, 1953) and felt that the military had a positive and life-turning impact on him.

On November 18, 1960 in South Bend, Jim married the former Mary-Lou Harding, who survives. In addition to his loving wife of 57 years, he is survived by daughters, Christine Francis Zimmer of Cincinnati, OH and Linda Lou Lizzi of Granger, IN; and grandchildren, Heather (Tucker) Bethem of Massillon, OH, Jason (Shelby) Zimmer and Melissa (Joseph) Bianco, both of Cincinnati, OH, Lindsay (Jason) Woodard of Centerville, OH, Kathryn Lizzi of Phoenix, AZ and James (Marin) Lizzi of San Clemente, CA. He is also survived by great grandchildren, Joey, Ava and Emma Bianco, Alex and Tyler Bethem, Isaiah, Maceo and Samaira Lizzi, Ella Hawk, Jake Woodard, and Kaylynn, Tatum and Braeden Zimmer; and well as siblings, Patricia Lawrence of Clarksville, TN and Michael Wolfe of Texas.

Jim worked as a mechanic and machinist at South Bend Screw Products, where he started a “stock club”. He and Mary-Lou resided in Granger, IN, then Middlebury, IN, where together they ran the “Lookout Bed and Breakfast” before finally moving to Eagle Lake in Edwardsburg, MI.

Jim’s hobbies included carpentry and an intense interest in WW II history. In fact, he was one of the founding members of The National WW II Museum in New Orleans, LA. He also loved traveling the United States with his family. Jim was an amateur photographer, collecting some 4000 slides over the years. He had a fascination with model trains, always building a “railway” in each of their homes. Jim loved all of his dogs and was never without one in his life. He was also proud of his short biography “A Piece of Work”.

Memorial services for Jim will be held at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Jim may be donated to The National WW II Museum, 945 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA 70130.
