SOUTH BEND - "In everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heavens. A time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which was planted." Anna L. Ward, 77, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008 in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN. She was born on December 28, 1930 in South Bend, IN, to the union of Eddie and Luvenia (Horne) Ward Sr., who both preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Georgia Bell Price and a brother, Eddie Ward Jr. Also preceding her in death were two daughters, Diane Scott and Krisytal Riley.

Anna was a graduate of Central High School. She received her B.S. and M.S. from Indiana University of South Bend.

She was employed with the South Bend Community School Corporation for 33 years. 10 years as a class room aid and 23 years as a teacher. She was also employed by Grand Leader and Star Stores. She was a long term member of Grace A.M.E. Zion Church. She was a former member of the young adult choir and helped with the kitchen ministry. She was a former member of the N.E.A. (National Education Assoc.) and the ISTA (Indiana State Teachers Assoc.). She was a former board member of the Near Westside Partnership Center. She aided in the growth of the neighborhood by working with the Habitat for the Humanity. As a teacher she was an inspiration to many of her students and as a parent she was always there for her children.

She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Karla Riley of South Bend; a grandson whom she raised, DeShawn (Chandra) Guiden of South Bend; seven great-grandchildren, Iesha Henry, Daiquan Pates, DeMarquis Rice, Dreichon Pates, Chanteri Snelling, Chayanna Guiden and Chiyah Guiden, all of South Bend; two sisters, Wilma Gary and Helen Person, both of South Bend; one brother, John Lewis Ward, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services for Anna Ward will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2008, in the Grace A.M.E. Zion Church, 1211 Vassar Ave., South Bend, IN. Visitation will begin at Noon with funeral services at 1 p.m. Burial will follow services at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5 in the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home. The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
