JOAN C. "DODIE" (KANIEWSKI) MULL

April 21, 1930 - June 4, 2013 MICHIGAN CITY - Joan Claire "Dodie" Mull, 83, joined Our Lord and the angels on June 4 at Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City, Arizona after a longtime battle with systemic scleroderma and a brief bout with pneumonia.

Friends may call at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN from 4 to 8 p.m. CDT, Friday, July 12, with Holy Mass at Notre Dame Catholic Church at 11 am. CDT on July 13. J

Joan was born to Martin and Pelagia (Gruszynski) Kaniewski on April 21, 1930 in South Bend, Indiana. She was the youngest of three children. Siblings Ruth (Kaniewski) Wolfe and Martin Kaniewski, both of South Bend, preceded her in death.

She graduated from South Bend Central High School in June 1948, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature at DePauw University, Greencastle, Indiana in 1952. I

n September that year, she married John C. Mull, Jr., who survives at White Oaks assisted living center in Lawton, Michigan. Joan is also survived by son Dave (Kathy Terpstra) Mull of Paw Paw, Michigan, and daughter, Mindy Mull of Oakland, California. Her youngest child, Steve Mull, preceded her in death in April of this year. Her grandchildren are Eve and Zoe Bostick of California, Liz Randall, Jake Randall and Jesse Boven of Michigan.

Joan was active in Notre Dame Catholic Church in Michigan City and was an active member of the Duneland Beach Garden Club. She was also a member of the Long Beach Country Club and an active volunteer for many organizations, including Service League, Junior League and P.E.O. She worked briefly while John was in law school as an HR administrator for Studebaker and much later as a substitute teacher. Joan will be remembered as John's devoted wife of more than 60 years and was much loved by her many friends. She loved her family and friends, gardening, playing golf, tennis, bridge and her regular morning walks along Lake Michigan.
