EDWARDSBURG - Jack N. Durben, 83, of Edwardsburg, MI, and Fort Myers, FL, went to be with his Lord on Nov. 10, 2012, at the Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart. Jack was born July 2, 1929, in South Bend, to Frank and Martha (Trabant) Durben.

On October 27, 1962, Jack married Patricia A. Nicholson. She survives along with a daughter, Wendy S. (John P.) Kennedy of Cincinnati, OH; two sons, James H. Durben of Edwardsburg, Christopher A. (Catherine) Durben of Dubai, United Arab Emirates; a brother, Donald F. (Jo) Durben of Knoxville; two granddaughters, Peyton and Ryan Kennedy, both of Cincinnati; two grandsons, Nicholas Jellison of Goshen and Zachary Durben of Dubai.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Martha Durben; a brother, Eugene Durben; and by an infant daughter.

Jack graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1948, received his B.A. from Valparaiso University in 1952, and received his M.B.A. from Indiana University- Bloomington in 1953.

Jack was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.

He worked at Bayer Corp. (the former Miles Lab. Inc.) from 1955 until retiring as Director of Compliance on Jan. 1, 1995. He was a local and national officer for the American Production and Inventory Control Society plus co-editor of the APICS Handbook. From 1960-1985 he was an instructor at IUSB. Jack was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkhart, and former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, South Bend. Jack also served on the school board at Trinity Lutheran School and involved with the school building committee. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity at Valparaiso University; an Ontwa, (MI) Township Trustee for 30 years; chairman of the Ontwa Township Planning and Zoning committee; and an active member of the Cass County (MI) Republican Party.

Friends may call from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 on Tues., Nov. 13, 2012, at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Services will be at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on Wednesday, Nov. 14, with viewing at 9:30-10:30 and services starting at 10:30. Entombment will follow at Chapel of Hope, Rice Cemetery.
