Warren “Dyke” J. Braunsdorf

Warren “Dyke” J. Braunsdorf, 88 of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023. He was born on October 27, 1934 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Robert L. and Kathryn (Fosdick) Braunsdorf. On October 20, 1956 he married Camilla Jane Erp, who survived him by one day. Warren is survived by four daughters, Mary (Jerry) Baranowski, Margaret “Maggie” Ray, Colleen Echard, Judy Kolber, two sons, Tim (Tammy) Braunsdorf, Brian Braunsdorf, all of South Bend/Mishawaka, Indiana, fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Warren was also preceded in death by one son, Jeff “Jake” Braunsdorf, two grandchildren, Bridget Echard Morris and Justin Kolber, one brother, Robert “Bob” Braunsdorf and one sister, Norma Clark.

Warren served in the Army (Korea), interrupting his apprenticeship. Warren was a Plumber Pipefitter and very active in the Local 172, which his grandfather helped found. He served almost 30 years on the finance board, as treasurer, as trustee of the pension and health and welfare, represented the local at several state and national conventions and served on the negotiations committee. He was the catalyst for starting the local pension.

He was politically involved and volunteered for Christmas in April, Rebuilding Together, Habitat for Humanity, Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus (including as envoy to Gibault School for children with special needs), Central HS Class of 53 reunion committee, St Joseph Medical Center Gift Shop, and Sister Maura Brannick (Chapin Street Health Clinic). (The latter 2 he did side by side with his loving wife, Rosie.) He earned the community award for hours of service in 2002. Dyke loved family get-togethers, fishing, White Sox, Bears, Bulls, and ND Sports!

A visitation for both will take place on Thursday July 27, 2023 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, IN from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a rosary to be prayed at 7:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday July 28, 2023 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1050 Wilber St., South Bend, IN at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice, 620 W. Edison Rd #122, Mishawaka, IN 46545 in Warren’s honor. Online condolences may be left at www.kaniewski.com
