ODELL J. NEWBURN

SOUTH BEND - Odell James Newburn Jr., 73, residing in South Bend, IN, departed this life to a place of eternal rest on Wednesday, July 11, 2012. Odell, known as "Duke," was born in South Bend on November 21, 1938, to the late Odell Newburn and Beatrice Jones. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara.

Odell leaves to cherish his memories a brother, Charles Jones of Phoenix, AZ; sisters, Sharon Newburn of Phoenix, AZ, Signora Newburn of Atlanta, GA, Jessie Newburn of Los Angeles, CA, Diane Newburn of South Bend and Delano Newburn of Indianapolis; as well as a special cousin, Jacquelene Morton; many beloved nieces and nephews; and his aunt, Garnetta (Donald) Brown of Champaign, IL.

Odell attended Perley Elementary School and graduated from Central High School in June 1958.

He served his country honorably in the United States Navy. Upon returning home, he moved to Los Angeles, CA, where he worked at Hughes Aircraft for a short while before moving on to work for Arrowhead. He later moved back to South Bend and went to work for Culligan Water Company until his retirement.

There will be no public services, according to Odell's wishes. Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be left for the Newburn family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
