Frank Louis Nowakowski

FRANK L. NOWAKOWSKI

Sept. 1, 1945 - Aug. 4, 2011
GRANGER - Mr. Frank L. Nowakowski passed away on Thursday in Hospice House at 65 years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank L. and Anna (Selecki) Nowakowski. Frank was a lifelong resident of the South Bend/Granger area.

After graduating from Central High School in 1963, Frank proudly served his country in the United States Army, spending a portion of his service in Germany. He received an honorable discharge for his service.

Frank's interests in motorized transport led him to devote the majority of his employment life to the area of vans and recreational vehicles. He held positions in dealership development, sales, client training, development and supervision. He retired from the industry in 2010. Vegetable and flower gardening were Frank's hobbies. He served on the board of Wellington Lakes Villas in a capacity working to maintain the lakes and grounds. Often vegetables from his garden found their way into special meals he prepared for family, neighbors and friends. He had the nickname of "Chef Frank." Long a sports fan, Frank was a golfer and a former member of the Knollwood Country Club for many years. He also enjoyed fishing and football -- especially as a Notre Dame football spectator.

Frank is survived by his wife, Joan (Fuson); children, Julie Ann (David) Solliday, and their son, Matthew of Phoenix, AZ, Jeffrey Nowakowski of Scottsdale, AZ, Erica (Paul Guerra) Nowakowski and their son, Antonio Guerra of Altamonte Springs, FL.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at McGann Hay Funerals | Cremations | Gatherings, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 (enter off Cherry Road). A funeral service to celebrate Frank's life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 11, 2011, at McGann Hay Granger Chapel, with Deacon John Tugman and Diane Schatterbeck of St. Pius X Parish officiating. Burial and graveside committal services will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family would like for people to consider memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, The American Heart Association, Memorials & Tributes Program, Dept. 77-3968, Chicago, IL 60678-3968; to The Center for Hospice Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
