Nancy L. (Sotkiewicz) Nowak

January 22, 1943 – May 31, 2023

Nancy L. Nowak, 80, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 2:42 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2023 in her home, following an illness.

She was born on January 22, 1943 to the late John A. and Elizabeth R. (Kovacs) Sotkiewicz in Mishawaka, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. Along with her parents; she was preceded in death by a grandson, Guadalupe Botello.

Nancy graduated in 1961 from Central High School. She retired in 2001 from the South Bend Community School Corporation, where she worked as a secretary for 27 years.

On July 29, 1961, as Nancy L. Sotkiewicz, she married Michael F. Nowak at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Michael F. Nowak of South Bend, IN; three daughters, Deborah (Calvin) Nowak-Frick of South Bend, IN; Laurie (Fred) Taghon of South Bend, IN; Julie Nowak of South Bend, IN; two sons, Timothy (Jacqui) Nowak of North Liberty, IN; John (Lori) Nowak of South Bend, IN; grandchildren, Seth Frame; Michelle (Josh) Westphal; Tara Nowak; Sarah (David) Ferrier; Lee (Melissa) Taghon; Jessica (JT) MacLeod; and Justin Nowak; and 13 great grandchildren, Alexandria, J.J., Cameron, Bexley, Lorenzo, Domenico, Dawson, Walker, Brook, Jack, Allison, Taylor, and Isaiah.

Nancy was a member of Corpus Christi Parish; and the Good Sam Club (Chapter 7) Fun Lovin’ Sam’s for 38 years, which was their camping group that they loved. Nancy also loved to Polka.

A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2023 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN 46628, followed by visitation until 6:00 p.m.

A Catholic Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2023 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN, with Rev. Daryl Rybicki officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend, IN.
