SOUTH BEND - Mr. Alfonso Roland Owsley, 66, of Talbot Street, South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, Indiana. Alfonso's life began on October 7, 1943, in Mound City, Illinois, when he was born to Felix and Florence (Adams) Owsley. As a young child Alfonso moved with his family to South Bend in 1946, coming from Detroit, Michigan.

Alfonso graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1961 and in that same year joined the United States Army serving until 1964.

He was employed in retail for 25 plus years for Washington Liquor Store. He also played on the Post 50 Baseball Team. He married Catherine Mosby in December 1965 and she preceded him in death in 1967.

Family members who survive to mourn his loss include his son, Craig Owsley of Michigan City, Indiana; his father, Felix Owsley Sr.; one brother, Felix (Susan) Owsley Jr., both of South Bend; aunts, Doris (Paul) Graham of South Bend; a niece, Maria (Brian) Harding of Granger, Indiana; nephew, Brian (Jinie) Owsley of Corpus Christi, Texas; and friends, Winford Morton of Indianapolis, Indiana, Greer (Cynthia) Walker and Dean Howard of Tucson, Arizona.

Preceding him in death along with his mother and wife was a nephew, Derek Owsley.

Funeral services for Mr. Owsley will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday in Alford's Mortuary where arrangements have been entrusted. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Messages of condolence may be e-mailed to alfordsmortuary@comcast.net c/o The Owsley Family.
