NORMAN KAGEL

KAGEL, NORMAN W. - 63, died suddenly on Sunday, May 21, 2006, in Knoxville. Born in South Bend, Indiana to George and Mildred Kagel, he was a 1961 graduate of South Bend Central High School.

He began a career in newspapers in the composing room of the South Bend Tribune and became Secretary of the local chapter of the International Typographical Workers Union. He earning a BA in Business Administration from the University of Indiana at South Bend, was promoted to Personnel Management and Labor Relations and transferred to head that department with The Morning Herald and The Daily Mail newspapers in Hagerstown, Maryland, becoming an active member of the National Labor Relations Board. He subsequently headed the Personnel Department with the Buffalo Courier-Express newspaper in Buffalo, New York, and ended his newspaper career with the Knoxville News-Sentinel. He worked in personnel for a number of other firms in later years, finally joining his son Sean's Company, SE Kagel Plumbing, as Office Manager not long before his death. He will be missed by The Team.

He is survived by: son, Gregory; son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Sonja and their son, Zebb; son, Troy; his grandson, Michael; daughter, Heather; and her son, Trey; all four children from his first marriage to the late, Carmaleta Jones.

A memorial service will be held at the home of Sean and Sonja Kagel at 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 27. Mourners should call 865-470-9664 for directions. Arrangements by Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel. www.rosemortuary.com.
