JAMES J. KUREK

SOUTH BEND - James J. Kurek, 74, died at 6:15 PM Monday at Michiana Health and Rehabilitation, Mishawaka, IN. He was born on December 15, 1938, in South Bend, IN, to the late Sylvester and Irene (Bronski) Kurek.

He was a 1957 graduate of South Bend Central High School. James honorably served our country in the United States Navy.

He did auto body and paint work for Don Medows in South Bend for many years, retiring in 2008. James was a man who thoroughly enjoyed his work, loved playing the accordion and listening to polka music. His hobby was oil painting.

James was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Kurek and Dennis Kurek; and by his nephew, Christopher Kurek.

James is survived by daughters, Patricia M. (Bryan) Knowles and Cynthia A. Kurek, both of Elkhart; the mother of his children, Phyllis J. Phipps; two grandchildren, Megan Phebus of Goshen and Jeffrey Knowles of Elkhart; and niece, Michelle Kurek.
