SOUTH BEND - Mrs. Millie Ann White, 73, of South Bend, Indiana, departed this life at 5:25 p.m. on April 10, 2011, in her residence after a lengthy illness. Millie was born on October 11, 1937, in Wynne, Arkansas, to David and Hazel (Hill) Scruggs. In 1941, coming from Wynne, Arkansas, she moved with her family to South Bend, Indiana.

She graduated from Central High School and retired from the former Dodge Division of Reliance Electric Co. in Mishawaka, Indiana, after 31 years of service. While employed by Dodge, she served as Director of the Dodge Athletic Association Board of Directors. Millie was also a member of AMVETS Post 66 where she held the position of treasurer.

On March 4, 1957, in South Bend, Indiana, she married Jeremiah White. She confessed Christ at an early age and was a member of The Holiness Church of God and Christ as a child. She later joined Saint Paul Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Jeremiah White; and four sons, Jerry G. White, Bruce A. White, Steve M. White and David A. (Emily) White, all of South Bend. She has 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She is survived by four sisters-in-law, Willi B. Coleman of Little Rock, Arkansas, Olivia (Charles) Smith of Saginaw, Michigan, Dorothy Jean (John) Patterson of New Port, Arkansas, and Elmarie Cambell of Saginaw, Michigan; five brothers-in-law, Frank (Georgia) Murphy of South Bend, Indiana, Verla (Jerri) Murphy of Eudora, Arkansas, Henry (Brenda) Murphy of Chicago, Illinois, Lem Murphy of Dayton, Ohio, and Dr. Richard Murphy of Saginaw, Michigan; and a host of relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her father, David W. Scruggs; her mother, Hazel (Hill) Scruggs; two sisters, Mable Dixie Harden and Mildred Scruggs; and one brother, David Scruggs, all of South Bend, Indiana. She was also preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Booker T. (Mary) Bell, of Anderson, Indiana.

Services for Millie Ann White will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011, in Saint Paul Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 621 Lindsey Street. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., then services at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visit our website at www.clarkoneal.com to sign her guestbook.
