Jan. 20, 1937 - Aug. 22, 2012 SOUTH BEND - Thomas, called "Tommy" by friends & family, passed away on August 22, 2012, at Memorial Hospital where he had the opportunity to say goodbye to several loving family members & friends. He spent his life in South Bend, Indiana, where he grew up, worked, married, raised his children, and shaped the memories of his life. 

Tommy attended his elementary and grammar school years at Perley and graduated from Central High School in 1956, and is remembered as an impressive football player.

Tommy was a hard worker and retired from Bendix Corporation, then a large manufacturing plant in the area, after working 29 years. Tommy had a flair for cooking and a palate for enjoying good food. He was considered a connoisseur of quality soul food. His children commented that he was a loving and caring father who never complained. Tommy will be sorely missed. Family members remaining to cherish his loving memory include children, Mark (Beverly), Angela, Bernard and Carylon Redding. Additional grandchildren, Courtney, Taria, DeShawn, Tracy, Carla, Telesha, Taria, Talisa, Taliyah, Timothy, Joseph, Deandra, Dontae, Evonna and Emmanuel will loving remember Papa. Moreover Tommy is survived by his brother, James Redding; sisters, Gertrude Ewing and Katherine Drye; his loyal childhood friend, Jerome Jones; along with a host of nieces & nephews. T

ommy was preceded in death by his wife, Amy Lee Trammel Redding; his parents, James Redding & Josephine Taylor Redding; daughter, Tresa; brothers, Jerry & Ernest Redding; and sisters, Marion Moore, Helen Carter and Stella Redding, who died in infancy.

Tommy would give a special "thank you" to his sister Katherine who was consistently a constant help and served as his special caregiver and supporter. Tommy would also offer a special thanks to his niece, Jeanne Ewing, for her support and 'T.V. Football times together.

Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at Alford's Mortuary, with viewing from 11:00 - 12:00 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary where messages of condolence may be e-mailed to Alfordsmortuary@att.net, c/o the Redding family.
