LaVerne R. Cyrier

SOUTH BEND - LaVerne R. Cyrier, 91, passed away at 8:10 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2011, in his home. LaVerne was born May 29, 1920, in South Bend, to the late Robert and Hazel Mae (Anderson) Cyrier. On June 14, 1941, LaVerne married Dorothy L. (Taelman), and she passed away on March 8, 1993. LaVerne was also preceded in death by brother, Bernard; sister, Betty; and by a grandson, Steven McCall.

LaVerne is survived by daughters, Karen (Jerry) Hull of Cape Coral, FL, and Melanie Friedman (David Gentile) of Port Charlotte, FL; sons, James R. of South Bend and Larry B. of South Bend; grandchildren, Lisa Rogers of Cape Coral, FL, Tom McCall of Warsaw, IN, Christie Baker of Warsaw, IN, Kimberly Owen of Elko, NV, Aaron Cyrier of South Bend, Tamara Reader of Marietta, GA, Gregory Friedman of Las Vegas, NV, and Todd Cyrier of South Bend; great-grandchildren, Amanda Rolofson, Kara Rogers, Ashley Rogers, Kelsey Reader, Ryan Reader, Nicholas Owen and Lydia Cyrier; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Cyrier of Mishawaka.

LaVerne was a parishioner of St. Matthew Cathedral for 57 years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved wood-working and has owned his own General Contracting & Custom Milling Business, L.R. Cyrier & Son since 1962. He will be remembered for his superior woodworking skills and his sense of humor. LaVerne also owned Karen's Restaurant on Western Avenue from 1946 to 1952. He was always concerned about his family and their well-being.

Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 1827 E. Ireland Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 14, 2011, in the Cathedral of St. Matthew. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
