Violet Gorski Hurley, 86, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Violet was born on October 4, 1920, in South Bend, Indiana to Joseph Anthony & Selma (Karmolinski) Derda. She retired in 1976 from Roach Appleton Manufacturing after 20 years of service.

On November 20, 1941, Violet married Stanley �Jack� Gorski who preceded her in death on January 15, 1956. Then on May 16, 1980, she married Charles �Todd� Hurley who preceded her in death on February 4, 1999.

Surviving are daughters, Victoria (Norman) Guentert of Niles, Michigan, Evangeline (Michael) Luhn of North Muskegon, Michigan, Denise (James) Roberts of South Bend, Christine (Dale) Lesicki of Edwardsburg, Michigan; sons, Richard (Judy) Karmolinski of South Bend, Thomas (Sandy) Karmolinski of Elkhart, Indiana, Gregory (Patricia) Gorski of Omaha, Nebraska; step-sons, Charles (Joan) Hurley of South Bend, Steve (Bonnie) Hurley of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Rick (Tonya) Hurley of Mishawaka, Indiana, Kevin (Cindy) DuBree of South Bend; a daughter-in-law, Mary Karmolinski of South Bend; 41 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Aurelia (Elmer) Kohorst of Albany, Minnesota, sisters-in-law; Amalia Derda of Niles, Michigan & Jean Gastineau of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; a brother, Reynold (Dorothy) Derda of South Bend; and a brother-in-law, Ron (Sharon) Hurley of Mishawaka, Indiana.

Violet was preceded in death by sons, Ronald Karmolinski in 1990 & Christopher Peter Gorski in 1950; a sister, Melaine Criswell; and brothers Chester & Leonard Derda.

Violet was a life member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Harvest House of St. Stanislaus and Holy Cross Churches, Altar and Rosary Society of St. Stanislaus Church, and the Teamsters Retirees.

She was a 1937 graduate of South Bend Central High School.

She was also an avid photographer loving to take pictures of her friends and family. Mom gathered people into her life. She accepted them, loved them, and considered each one as special, having a unique goodness. She remembered their birthdays with a card or a song and acknowledged their death by comforting those left behind. She was a peacemaker who had a limitless ability to forgive while setting an example of honesty, integrity and love.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2007, at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2007, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
