Louis F. Horvath, 101, passed away at 12:10 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2021 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on November 18, 1919 to the late Michael and Agnes (Foder) Horvath in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; six sisters: Helen, Betty, Margaret, Mary, Irene, and Irma; two brothers, Joseph and Michael; and a son-in-law, Gary A. Lobeck.

Louis graduated in 1938 from Central High School in South Bend, IN. He retired in 1982 from the Bendix Corp. in South Bend, IN, where he worked for many years as an Expediter.

On January 31, 1947, he married Margaret I. Suth in South Whitley, IN. She passed away on April 3, 1995.

Louis is survived by his daughter, Chris Lobeck of Granger, IN; his son, John (Connie) Horvath of South Bend, IN; five grandchildren: Tara Dahl, Erika (Andy) Huemmer, Sara (Tim) Bolle, Stephanie (Tim) Suwyn, and Stacy Lutz; and nine great-grandchildren: Jena Bolle, Taylor Bolle, Jake Huemmer, Colin Lutz, Declan Dahl, Brayden Blackburn, Jayden Swartz, Nolan Swartz, and Ella Suwyn.

Louis was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 50 and V.F.W. Post 1167, both in South Bend. Louis was an avid Notre Dame fan, bowler, and golfer. He enjoyed family gatherings, cooking out, and spending summer vacations with his family at Magician Lake in Michigan. But most of all, Louis loved spending time with his family and drinking beer.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, private services will take place. Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery, where Military Honors will be conducted.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Foundation, Supporting Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545-5234.
