Marlin B. Kreighbaum, 91, of Peoria, Ill., passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014.

Marlin was born on Jan. 19, 1923, to Bruce and Bernice (York) Kreighbaum in South Bend, Ind. He had two wives who preceded him in death, Audrey (Yarnell) Kreighbaum (1971), married 24 years with two children and Erna (Maibaum) Kreighbaum (1981), married for eight years.

He is survived by his wife, Helen (Demanes) Kreighbaum, whom he married on Oct. 23, 1982; his two children, Vicki (Al) Schoedel of Peoria, Ill., and Bill (Karen) Kreighbaum of Dallas, Texas; four stepchildren, Lynnette (Michael Fleming) Demanes of Peoria, Ill., Steve (Debbie Lampert) Demanes of East Peoria, Ill., Kim (Patrick) McSherry of Peoria, Ill., and Mark Demanes of Seattle, Wash.

In 1941, he moved to Peoria, Ill., to work for R.G. LeTourneau in the photo lab. In December 1942 he entered the U. S. Army, at Scott Field, Ill., and continued basic training in Atlantic City for the Army Air Corps. He was later sent to Dale Mabry Field in Florida as a photographer. In 1943, Marlin was selected to study basic engineering in a specialized training program at Rhode Island State University. Later he went to the 78th Division at Camp Pickett (Virginia) as a rifleman, and onto the 280th Engineer Combat Battalion at Camp McCoy (Wisconsin) in 1944. Marlin's battalion joined the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium with General Patton's 3rd Army, where he served as a photographer and serviceman. In 1945, the 280th, along with the Ninth Army, crossed the Rhine River at Wesel, Germany, earning Marlin three battle stars for service in ETO.

After World War II, Marlin came back to Peoria, working various jobs in advertising. He rose to president of Ross Advertising, then vice president of Ruppman Advertising. He left Ruppman in 1974 to form his own business, Mark IV Advertising, he retired from Mark IV in January 1997.

Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
