SOUTH BEND - Joseph S. Egyed, 75, following a brief illness, quietly passed away in his home on Saturday, October 1, 2011, surrounded by family and friends. Joseph was born on August 17, 1936, in South Bend, to the late Joseph P. and Margaret (Nagy) Egyed.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Christopher Egyed.

On June 30, 1962, he married Rosanne M. Rzeszewski, who survives along with their children, Lyndelle Egyed of Bristol, IN, Steven (Anita) Egyed of South Bend; and granddaughter, Stephanie Egyed of South Bend.

Joseph graduated from South Bend Central High School and honorably served his country in the United States Army, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

After leaving the military he went to work for Wheel Horse product for 30 years, retiring as a test engineer. He owned The Bait Shop for 8 years, and loved hunting and fishing. Joseph was active in Little League as a coach and umpire, but he especially loved coaching in the Challenger League and watching his granddaughter play volleyball. He was a member of American Legion Post 284, was a fan of the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bears and Notre Dame. Joe also loved going to the casinos.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Memorial Hospital's 10 South.

Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm today, October 4, 2011, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
