Frances A. Schmanski, 86, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 12:00 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2021 at the Center for Hospice Care Esther's House in Elkhart, IN.

She was born on October 23, 1934 to the late Walter Roy Nave and Martha Theresa (Pinkowski) Nave in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, John F. Schmanski; and son, John Mark Schmanski.

Fran graduated in 1952 from Central High School in South Bend, IN. She retired in 1997 from Rowe and Rowe Law Offices in South Bend, IN, where she worked as a Legal Secretary for over 30 years.

On May 5, 1956, as Frances A. Nave, she married John F. Schmanski at Holy Cross Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. John passed away on February 13, 2014.

Fran is survived by her three daughters, Mary (Brad Niedbalski) Schmanski of South Bend, IN, Jennifer (Michael) Dolphin of Park Ridge, IL, and Amy (Charles) Crennell of Edwardsburg, MI; one son, Joseph (Gloria) Schmanski of Osceola, IN; a daughter-in-law, Carol Schmanski of Mishawaka, IN; 11 grandchildren: John (Ayako) Schmanski, Michael (Michelle) Schmanski, Kimberly (Tom) Kurtz, Louis (Heather) Dolphin, Zack (finacee Samantha) Dolphin, Hanna Dolphin, Casey, Camron, and Conor Crennell, Robert (Danielle) Niedbalski, and Jennifer (Dion) Reese; seven great-grandchildren: Payton and Parker Niedbalski, John and Frances Schmanski, Jolene Kurtz, Ronald Dowell, Jr., and Donae Reese.

Fran was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, where she belonged to the church's Altar Rosary Society. She loved spending Saturday mornings at the Farmer's Market and attending Notre Dame women's basketball games. Fran was devoted to her family and always looked forward to spending time at the family lake cottage on Westler Lake in Wolcottville, IN.

There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, South Bend, IN, with Rev. Daryl Rybicki officiating. For those unable to attend, the Funeral Mass will be livestreamed on the Corpus Christi Facebook Page. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
