PATRICIA  A. (HANLEY) GRIFFIN

Patricia A. Griffin Jan. 11, 1933 - May 12, 2014 ELGIN, IL - Patricia A. Griffin, 81, formerly of South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully May 12, 2014. Born January 11, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Richard Edwin and Zephers Irene (Heistan) Hanley. She was also preceded in death by son, G. Kevin Griffin; and brother-in-law, David Horvath.

Left to cherish her memory are three children, Kelly Anne (Bob) Komula of Lewisburg, PA, Keelin Susanne Elder of San Antonio, TX, and Kara Katherine Griffin of Aurora, IL. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Conor (Ashley) Komula of Madison, WI, Myles Komula of Mpls., MN, Emily Elder of Dallas,TX, Alec Elder of San Antonio, TX, and Keagan Griffin of Oswego, IL; one great-granddaughter, Fiona Komula of Madison, WI; and four siblings, Betty Lou Hanley-Jones of Westminster, MD, Susan K. Horvath of South Bend, IN, Timothy Dennis Hanley of Dallas, TX, and Jon K. (Marty) Hanley of South Bend, IN.

Patricia was a 1951 graduate of Central High School in South Bend.

She was a member of Bata Sigma Phi Sorority in Aurora, IL. She traveled extensively in the Floral Design Industry, visiting 10 countries. She taught floral design for 15 yrs. in Aurora, IL. She was a tour director at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at Notre Dame for 14 years. She also worked with Interior Design through the IMS in Chicago. Patricia had many talents, while interior and floral design were her favorite. She was a tremendous fan of Notre Dame football as well as of the University itself. She was, most importantly, a loving mother and very proud of her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by many.

Friends may call from 4-7 PM EST on Thursday, May 29th, at the McGann Hay, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 30th, at 10:00 AM EST at St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend, IN, with visitation one hour prior in the church. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lung Cancer Foundation. To send condolences to the family, please visit www.McGannHay.com.
