Patricia Ann Henry

Jul. 2, 1941 - Nov. 22, 2014

Patricia Ann Henry July 2, 1941 - Nov. 22, 2014 GRANGER - Patricia Ann Henry died peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2014 in her home with her daughter holding one hand and her granddaughter holding the other.

Patty was born in South Bend, IN on July 2, 1941, the daughter of Michael and Helen M. (Shively) Sacchini. She was a 1959 graduate of South Bend Central and was popular with all her friends and classmates. Patty is survived by her mom, Helen "Granny" Holton and her dad, Michael Sacchini both of South Bend. She is also survived by her daughter, Dr. Tara (Tony) Svatos; brothers, Mike (Barbara) Sacchini and Joey (Melanie) Alexander; a sister, Jeannine (Hank) Groot, a brother-in-law, Larry Ehlert, a mother-in-law, Hazel Henry, a stepdaughter, Karen (Robert, daughter Vanessa) Henry Kraft, a stepson, Kevin Henry (sons Michael and Matthew), aunt Maxine Shively, uncle Laurence Furmani, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her two grandchildren, Helen and Michael Svatos were the love of her life. Patty was a strong, independent, smart woman with a great sense of humor.

She left South Bend soon after graduation from high school and spent many years in Santa Monica, California. However, she came to her roots when she gave birth to her beautiful daughter (Tara). Later in life, on March 27, 1979, she married Larry E. Henry who was a captain with U.S. Air and they had a wonderful life together. They traveled to Europe and China, owned a condo in Naples, Florida and had a yacht on Lake Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her husband Larry and a sister. Carolyn "Snookie" Ehlert who died on March 8, 2014. Patty enjoyed cooking, taking care of the yard (straight lines), dancing, talking to her many friends on the telephone, having a glass of wine (or two) and spending time at her "Summer Place" on Baldwin Lake in Michigan with her family and friends. She fought the horrible disease until the moment she died. She never wanted anyone to worry about her, was very brave and kept a positive attitude about life right up to the end. She will be greatly missed but now she is at peace and free of pain. A special thanks to Dana Young, Brandee Flagg RN, MSN, ACNS-BC, OCN, Rafat Ansari MD, FACP and the wonderful staff at Michiana Hematology Oncology for all the years of wonderful care and friendship.

Many thanks to Heartland Hospice and especially Jen Edwards RN, BSN for the care and kindness they provided during her last months. A special thank you to Marriana at Senior 1 Care for the wonderful companionship and care she provided. Thank you to all her wonderful friends at Harbour Lights in Naples, FL and all the family and friends who sent cards, made phone calls, and offered prayers for Patty.

A celebration of her life will be held at McGann Hay Granger Chapel at 13260 State Road 23, enter off Cherry Rd., in Granger, Indiana (574-232-1411) on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 11:00 with visitation at 10:00; burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
