SOUTH BEND - Barbara Ann Michalos, 88, was born March 28, 1930 in South Bend, Indiana to John and Teresa Fink. She attended South Bend Central High School and worked as a stenographer at Torrington Company in South Bend, Indiana before marrying Fred V. Michalos on June 3, 1958. She was married to Fred for 43 years until his death on January 31, 2001. She had 3 children, Victor (Barb) Michalos of South Bend, Indiana, Paula (Dan) Hawley of Granger, Indiana, and Mary (Steve) Marzullo of Overland Park, Kansas. She had 10 grandchildren: Sarah, Adam, Megan, and Alex Michalos; Frederick, Caroline, Matthew, and Joseph Hawley; and Jake and Mac Marzullo, each of whom she cherished. She also had 2 great-grandchildren, Everly and Thea Michalos. Barbara was a lifelong member of St. Andrew's Greek Orthodox Church and a member of the Daughters of Penelope of St. Andrew's Church. She lived her life for her family and was actively involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, John E. Fink (Jane) of Niles, Michigan; and her late sister, Betty Lou Green (Jesse) of Osceola, Indiana. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chris V. (Josephine) Michalos of South Bend, Indiana; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Michalos Pawlowski (Robert) of Prospects Heights, Illinois. She is survived by 5 loving nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews. Throughout her life she had many wonderful friends. She was also a supporter of the South Bend Medical Foundation blood drive and received numerous awards and recognitions. Always a lady, always proper and appropriate, she never had an unkind word to say about anyone. Even in sickness she remained sweet, thankful, and respectful to her dedicated and watchful caregivers whom she loved and looked forward to seeing every day. The family would like to extend a special “thank you” and everlasting gratitude to caregivers, Gwen Rucker and Liz Flemming, who were by her side for many years, as well as the Maxim Healthcare Agency and Pricilla, Heather, Maria, Simone, and Roxanne. Additionally, to Ruthie Furlow who was a devoted caregiver. A soft, graceful, and gracious woman, she will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018 in St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, 52455 N. Ironwood Dr. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 12:00 noon until the time of services in the church.
