Donald A. Hans, 65,  LaPorte, Indiana, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 3:11 am in Franciscan  St. Anthony Health - Michigan City, Michigan City, Indiana

There will be no visitation hours, cremation will take place and a memorial service will be at a later date.  Arrangements are being handled by the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana.    

He was born February 11, 1950 in South Bend, Indiana to the late  Donald C. and  Pearl (Myer) Hans..

Surviving are Son, Donald J. (Heather) Hans of Michigan City, Indiana; Step-son, Christopher (Jessica) Amstutz of Lake City, Florida; Seven Grandchildren, Gage, Gavyn, Desiree, Bryston, Malcolm, Donald Jr., and Andrew; Brother, David (Tammy) Hans, South Bend, Indiana;  former spouse of 24 years, Ginny Borolov of Michigan City; Beloved pet Briard named Cheyenne; He was preceded in death by Son, Andrew Hans; Two Sisters, Lynn Saylor and Kristen MacTaggart;  

Don was a 1968 graduate of South Bend Central High School, and earned a scholarship to Purdue University for swimming and diving.  A member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity, he graduated in 1972 from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Life Sciences, and received his Master's Degree from Indiana University in Secondary Education.  Mr. Hans taught at Issac C. Elston Senior High School in Michigan City from 1974 to 1981, where he also coached swimming and diving.  He worked for E.R. Squibb Pharmaceuticals from 1981 until 1987.  He retired from Miami Dade County Public Schools in 2003 ending his teaching career as an Educational Specialist in Aquatics and Water Safety.  Don devoted many years to the Boy Scouts and enjoyed fishing, hunting, computers, music and many, many beloved pets over the years.  "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7.

After graduating from S.B.Central in 1968, Don attended Purdue University with a swimming/diving scholarship. A Delta Upsilon Fraternity brother, he graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Life Sciences. Don also received his Masters Degree from Indiana University in Secondary Education. He then taught Issac C. Elston Senior H.S. in Michigan City 74-81, where he also taught swimming and diving. He Worked for E.R.Squibb Pharmaceuticals 1981 to 1987. Retired from Date County Public Schools in 2003.
