Harry Webster Dieter

July 13, 1942 - July 14, 1998

Harry Dieter, 56, of South Bend, Ind., and Silver Springs, Md., rests in peace. Mr. Dieter passed away at 3:05 a.m. on Tues-day, July 14, in St. Joseph's Medical Cen-ter in South Bend. Born in Oakdale, La., he spent most of his life in the South Bend area. His colorful life included serving in the United States Army as well as a degree in mortuary science and a career in funeral directing. Prior to retirement, he was a police officer for the University of Notre Dame. He served on the St. Joseph County Reserve Air Posse, St. Joseph County Police Reserves, and was a St. Joseph County Special Olympics volunteer.

He is survived by a sister, Mary Jane Barkdoll of Silver Springs, Md.; and two brothers, Richard J. Dieter, D.P.M., and Thomas E. Dieter of South Bend. He leaves behind two children, Dawn Dieter and Erich J. Dieter, and a grandson, Rutger Ernsberger, all of South Bend.

Mr. Dieter was preceded in death by his parents, Edward J. and Frances K. (Webster) Dieter.

There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place. There will be a Memorial Service at 2 p.m. today in the Kaniewski Chapel, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, with Rev. Joseph A. Rulli officiating.

Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, is handling arrangements.
