SOUTH BEND - Michaele "Mikki" S. Dobski, 65, of South Bend, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2010, in Cardinal Nursing Home, South Bend.

She was born on August 24, 1945, in South Bend, to the late Robert and Margaret Hettinghouse.

On February 27, 1965, she married Bernie Dobski, who survives. Along with her husband she is survived by her daughter, Melodi (Mike) Dobski of New Palestine, IN; three sons, Joe (Michelle) of South Bend, Matthew (Amy) of Nashua, NH, and BJ (Elisa) of Worcester, MA; eight grandchildren, Oliver and Lewis Bauer, Grace and Noah Dobski, Justin and Nora Dobski, Ava and Paloma Dobski; a sister, Patricia of Bono, AR; and by two brothers, Robert "Bob" (R'Lisle) Hettinghouse of Ocala, FL, and Brian (Gen) Hettinghouse of Plainwell, MI. She was preceded in death by a sister, Melody.

Mrs. Dobski retired from the Penn Harris Madison School Corporation after over 20 years of service. She was a teacher at Horizon Elementary. Mikki dedicated her life to teaching and working with children. Part of her legacy will be the numerous books she donated to schools and children in need.

She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus B.M. Catholic Church, a former CASA volunteer, and was a Campfire Girls leader.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2010, in St. Stanislaus B.M. Catholic Church, where friends may visit for one hour prior to the Mass. Kaniewski Funeral Homes, South Bend, is handling the arrangements.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cardinal Nursing Home, Hospice, and Julie Jena for their dedicated care of our mother. To her family, children and grandchildren, as well as generations of her students, Mikki gave her guidance, inspiration, friendship and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and whose lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus B.M. Catholic Church, 415 N. Brookfield Street, South Bend, IN 46628; to the Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC, 20090-6011; or to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
