Edward Lee Peterson

SOUTH BEND - Edward Lee Peterson, 70, formerly of South Bend, passed away in the Ruskin Hospice House in Florida on February 2, 2014.
Edward is survived by his wife of twenty-six years, Mary Ann (Downey) Peterson. He is also survived by his twin children, Michael (Shannon) Bergeron and Michelle (Mike) Dempsey; eight grandchildren; a sister, Judy (Bob) Bennett; a loving nephew, Jack Bennett; niece, Jill (James) Grochowaski; and their children, Kayla, Lyndsey and Ryan. When Ed married Mary Ann, he inherited a large extended family and became a stepfather to Kevin (Kathy) Downey and Ben (Lindsey) Downey, and grandpa to their eight children.
Ed spent most of his working career managing South Bend Warehouse and Distribution, Independent Concrete Pipe, and his last employment in South Bend was with Real Services providing rides and grocery shopping to elderly people in need. Ed will be remembered for his loud, infectious laugh, sense of humor, and willingness to help people in need. He was an avid sports fan, and his love of the Cubs was replaced by loyalty to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was an avid SJHS football fan, and helped line fields and sell 50/50 tickets, as well as attend all games. He would watch any sporting event he could on TV, and it was only fitting he passed on Super Bowl Sunday.
In South Bend, he will be remembered for his manicured lawn and gorgeous flowers. He opened his pool to the neighborhood residents, friends, Mary Ann's students, and family members. Uncle Ed, in hopes that all would have fun, hosted many parties and celebrations. Ed will be remembered and missed by many people and each will have a unique story to tell. He will always be in a baseball cap and a favorite tee-shirt.
