PATRICK SIMERI

Nov. 7, 1925 - Feb. 14, 2013
GRANGER - Patrick Simeri of Granger, IN, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 14, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 7, 1925, to the late Rocco and Rosa (Linarello) Simeri. On November 12, 1949, he married the former Josephine Catanzarite at St. Monica's Catholic Church in Mishawaka, IN. Also surviving are his daughters, Patti Simeri of Jupiter, Florida, Gina (Terry) Kelly of Valparaiso and Rosemary (Kevin) Pickrell of South Bend. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Tony Pickrell, Gina Pickrell Barton and Patrick Kelly. Also surviving are his brothers, Rocco Simeri Jr. of South Bend and Joe Simeri of Arizona; and a sister, Rose Mary (Eddie) Wray of South Bend.

Patrick was preceded in death by his brothers, Nicholas Simeri of South Bend and Albert Simeri of Elkhart.

In 1949 he married his loving wife, Josie, who survives; they shared 63 wonderful years together.

In 1956 he followed his dream to open an Italian restaurant specializing in his famous cracker crust pizza and many homemade Italian dishes. His dream became a reality as he became a very successful owner and operator of Nicola's Restaurant for 43 years. Patrick was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge.

He graduated from South Bend Central High School. After high school he entered the United States Navy from 1943-1946, where he served as a veteran of D-Day.

He loved spending time with his family. His grandchildren loved being with him - listening to all his funny stories and jokes. He was loved by everyone who met him and had more friends than you could count. Among his hobbies, besides cooking, he loved deep sea fishing and golfing with his buddies. He also enjoyed his trips with his family to their vacation home in Florida. Pat had a heart of gold and was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back. His caring and compassion for people was extraordinary and he kept his sense of humor until his last breath. He will be missed dearly and forever hold a special place in our hearts. Dad, remember always, as you look down and watch over us, how much we love you, and you will be taking a big piece of our hearts with you. You were the best dad in the world. Patti, Rosemary and Gina.

The family will receive family and friends today, February 17th, from 1 pm-7 pm at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial, with Monsignor William Schooler officiating, will be held at 10:30 am, with one hour visitation prior at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Monday, February 18, 2013. Burial will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka.
