Frank E. Matthews

Frank E. Matthews was born on August 25, 1925, in South Bend, to the Frank and Marie (Guilfoyle) Matthews.

Frank served in the US Navy in World War II; he graduated from the Navy Submarine School, served in the Philippines, and the V12 program at Notre Dame University.

On June 26, 1948, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Frank married Cecelia (Cece) Kapalczynski. He attended the University of Notre Dame, graduated from the University of Denver and received his Masters degree from Michigan State University. In the early 1950s he was a partner with his brother David in M&M Motors.

He was an educator at Penn High School, Mishawaka, where he taught math and physics, and was chairman of the Math/Science Department at until his retirement in 1982. He started the Penn High Ski Club, and was past president of Penn Harris Madison Teachers Association.

Frank was a longtime member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and a member of the Elks. He was always very active, loved downhill skiing, water skiing, sailing, real estate and the stock market. He had penchant for traveling with his family, visiting most of the United States and trips to Eastern and Western Europe.

He died at age 84 at the Morningside Nursing and Memory Center.
