MISHAWAKA - Joan M. Jagg, 87, of Mishawaka, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2012) at The Milton Home in South Bend. She was born Feb. 18, 1925 in South Bend to Milo & Kathryn (Huber) Wolf, Sr. both of whom predeceased her. Also predeceasing her was her husband of 58 years, William F. Jagg, in 2005 and a son, Mark J. Jagg, four sisters, Mary Arce, Rose Hosler, Nada Zabik and Jean Morningstar, & two brothers, Milo Wolf, Jr. and J. William Wolf. Survivors include a son, William E. (Ida) Jagg, and two grandsons, Matthew and Nicholas Jagg, of Alexandria Virginia, and a sister-in-law, Fern Wolf, of South Bend.

She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many great and great great nieces and nephews.

Joan graduated from Central High School in 1943 as co-valedictorian along with six others all with perfect 4.0 grade point averages, and was a National Honor Society member. She then entered the Cadet Nurse Corps at St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in South Bend and graduated first in her class in 1946.

She worked as head nurse in obstetrics at St. Joseph Hospital until 1947 when she married William F. Jagg in St. Joseph's Church in South Bend. She then moved to Terre Haute, Indiana where her husband attended Indiana State University to play basketball under John Wooden. There she taught Medical and Surgical Nursing at St. Anthony's Hospital for three years. They then moved to Illinois where she did private duty nursing for seven years. They returned to the South Bend area in 1958 where she returned to St. Joseph Hospital and her husband continued his teaching at the new Penn High School. Due to ill health, she retired from nursing in the early 1970's. She then worked for Weight Watchers for 13 years, retiring in 1986. After she and her husband both retired, they spent winters for 13 years in the Ft. Myers, Florida area, finally returning to their Penn Road home. She loved gardening (froze and canned most of her produce), reading, knitting, bridge and poker. Joan was a very active member of Queen of Peace Church and the Alter and Rosary Society and was co-chairman of the Building Committee of the present church and hall.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 9, 2012) at Zimmerman-Inman Funeral Home, 1109 Lincolnway W., Osceola, with a Rosary to be recited at 4 p.m. Sunday. There will also be visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church by Fr. Daniel Scheidt. Cremation will follow at Elkhart Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Queen of Peace Church or School.
