SOUTH BEND - Josephine E. Singleton, a lifelong resident of the South Bend-Mishawaka area, passed away at 4:55 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2008, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, at the age of 82. She was born June 29, 1925, in South Bend, to Paul E. and Martha (Landuyt) Rosheck.

She was a graduate of South Bend's Central High School and the Saint Joseph Hospital School of Nursing.

She retired as a Registered Nurse, and was a devoted volunteer of the Foster Grandparent Program, having worked with Head Start at the Battell Center in Mishawaka and the Juvenile Center.

Mrs. Singleton is survived by her two sons, Harry P. Singleton and his wife, Marcia of South Bend, and Paul E. Singleton and his wife, Diana of North Liberty. Also surviving Josephine are her sister, Madeline A. Zach of South Bend; nine grandchildren, Paul M. Singleton, 1st Lt. Scott Singleton, Paul Singleton Jr., Justin Mark Singleton, Cody Joseph Singleton, Kelly Diane (Jesse) Kendall, Carey McDaniel, John (Jessica) McDaniel and Jeremy Joe LaRue; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Amelia Singleton and Martha M. McDaniel.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Mark Richter and his staff at Nephrology for the wonderful care offered to Josephine during her illness. Your kindness will always be appreciated and remembered.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. today, April 21, 2008, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Chris Cox, pastor of St. Casimir Catholic Church, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. The family received friends from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, where a Rosary was recited at 2:30 p.m. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Singleton may be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind, 1039 South Rochester Road, Rochester, MI 48307.
