May 1, 1925 - October 28, 2019

Ruth E. Duggleby, 94, of Indianapolis, passed away October 28, 2019. She was born May 1, 1925 in Griffith, Indiana to the late Roy Wesley and Ella Scharer Michel.

Ruth was a 1943 graduate of Central South Bend High School.

She received her Bachelor’s degree from Asbury University and married Rev. Donald R. Duggleby, September 9, 1951. He preceded her in death August 11, 2010.

Ruth was a member of Monon United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women where she served as an officer at the local and state level. She was a compassionate pastor’s wife with a heart for ministry. Ruth especially enjoyed playing the piano, organ, and singing in the church choir. She was a teacher and homemaker who enjoyed crafting, painting, hiking and camping. She invested many years of leadership for the Girl Scout’s, Cub Scouts and 4-H Club.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 1, 2019 from 7:00 p.m. until the time of service at 8:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Thompson Road Chapel, 3333 E. Thompson Road. Interment will be in Buffalo Cemetery in Buffalo, IN.

Ruth is survived by her loving and devoted daughters, Mary R. Gill and Jean E. Rhine; daughter-in-law, Sandy Duggleby; grandchildren, Michelle Fridley (Aaron), James O. Gill, Bridgett Neto (Michael), Lynn King (Jeff), Michael Duggleby (Mollie) and Rachel Siebert (Mark); sister, Evelyn E. Wachstetter; and brother, Burlyn E. Michel. Ruth was preceded in death by her son, John Duggleby; daughter, Martha Duggleby; grandson, David A. Rhine; and four great-grandchildren.

Indiana United Methodist Children’s Home, located in Lebanon, is a group home setting for abused and neglected youth between the ages of 14-19. They come from all over Indiana and live in a home-like setting. Services include: therapeutic counseling, an outstanding education at the Home’s accredited on-grounds school, independent living programs through the Teaching Family Model and spiritual life development.
