September 21, 1925 ~ October 23, 2019 (age 94)

Eleanore J. Engstrom-Lybarger, 94, resident of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday morning, October 23, 2019. She was born on September 21, 1925 in South Bend to Karl and Anna (Borostowski) Hoffmann, both of whom preceded her in death.

On June 7, 1947 in South Bend, Eleanore married Robert L. Engstrom, who preceded her in death on October 16, 1986. She later married Ralph Lybarger on January 2, 2000 in South Bend.

In addition to her loving husband of nearly 20 years, Eleanore is survived by her daughter, Diana R. Engstrom of Lakeville, IN; two sons, Carl E. Engstrom of Mishawaka, IN, and David R. Engstrom of Mishawaka, IN; stepdaughter, Sheryl A. (Steve) Bennett of Canton, MI; stepsons, James R. Lybarger of Cicero, IN; David S. Lybarger of Key Largo, FL; Paul J. Lybarger of North Glen, CO; and John P. (Tammy) Lybarger of North Liberty, IN; eleven grandchildren, Jana (Brian) Smith; Stephen (Cherie) Engstrom; Lauren P. Korotenko; Nicholas Lybarger; Geoffrey, Andrew, Jacob and Thomas Bennett; Daniel Lybarger; Kristine Wolf, and Patricia Axsom; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Eleanore was preceded in death by her four sisters, Hilda Weaver, Irma Sayer, Mildred Fitterling, and Dorothea Hoffmann; as well as her two brothers, Herman Hoffmann and Karl Hoffmann.

Eleanore was employed by the United States Federal District Court for 20 years, retiring in 1987. She lived in Lakeville, Indiana, for 25 years, before relocating to South Bend. She attended Southgate Church in South Bend, and was a member of Calvary Temple. She was a frequent volunteer at Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services for Eleanore will be held at 11:00am on Monday, October 28, 2019 at Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Pastor Brad Lomax from Emmanuel Baptist Bible Church in Niles, Michigan, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00-4:00pm on Sunday, October 27th at the funeral home, as well as from 10:00-11:00am on Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Eleanore may be donated to an organization of the donor’s choice.
