RUSSELL J. HESS
Russell J. Hess, age 83, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at the Rosewood Care Center in Rockford. He was born July 18, 1925, in Auburn, IN, the son to Elmer and Helen Marie, nee Cashmier, Hess.
He graduated from South Bend, IN Central High School in 1943.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943 to 1946.
He married Eleanor M. Fulton on June 28, 1969, at the Berwyn Untied Lutheran Church in Berwyn, IL.
Russell worked for several companies including Electro-voice Mfg Co., Miehle-Goss-Dexter, Allis Chalmers, Pullman and Litton Systems retiring in 1990. He had lived in Auburn, IN, South Bend, IN, Dolton, IL, and Rockford, IL.
Survived by his son David (Jeanne) Hess of Rockford; four grandchildren Katharine, Karri, Jonathan and K. Thomas Hess; sister Viola L. Pritzel of South Bend, IN; and sister-in-law Vada Anderson of Chicago; several nieces and nephews.
Christian Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Byron, IL, with the Rev. Sylvester Nnaso officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Calumet City, IL. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 136 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Stillman Valley, IL. A memorial fund is established for the American Cancer Society. Visit
