SOUTH BEND - Jean Grunert Kopec, 82, of Allen, Texas, formerly of South Bend, died October 14th after battling leukemia. She was born in Roseland on January 31st, 1926, to Blanche and Frederick Grunert, who lived in South Bend most of her life.

She was a 1943 graduate of Central High School after which she was employed by the Studebaker Corporation as a draftsman.

On June 7th, 1952, she married Norman Kopec, a former St. Joseph County Superior Court Judge and attorney in South Bend. He preceded her in death on October 14th, 1983.

She is survived by son, Frederick Kopec, and wife, Cindy of Austin, TX; son, Karl Kopec, and wife, Rosemary of Granger; granddaughter, Clare Kopec of Chicago; daughter, Mary Duyck, and husband, Lanny of Allen, TX; grandchildren, Holyn and Will Duyck of Allen, TX; son, Christopher Kopec, and wife, Shaye of Canyon Lake, TX; and grandchildren, Zachary and Alexander of Canyon Lake, TX. Survivors also include her sister, Dorothy Lang, and niece, Johanna Lang, both of Boulder, CO, and niece, Kristien Hill of Denver, CO.

A family gathering is planned for a later date in South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
