Kathleen Helen Casey Leis

LEIS, Kathleen H. Kathleen H. Leis, 80, formerly of Coulter St. in Old Saybrook, passed away on Monday, (February 2, 2004), while a patient at a convalescent home in Rocky Hill. Kathleen, the daughter of James Casey and Helen Kerr Casey, was born in South Bend, IN, where she attended Grade school and High School.

She was wed in January 1945 to Donald G. Leis, P.H.D., who she had met while he was a Doctoral candidate at the Univ. of Notre Dame. Kathleen and Don lived for 17 years in West Virginia, where Don worked at the Union Carbide Facility in South Charleston and where Kathleen owned and operated a dancing school teaching classes in ballet and tap. She and Don relocated in 1963 to Riverside, CT. after Don was promoted to a position at the Union Carbide Headquarter in NYC. After three children were grown and out on their own, Kathleen and Don became active travelers visiting the Holy Land and various countries in Europe, being particularly fond of the Lake Como area in northern Italy. After Don's retirement from Union Carbide, Kathleen and he moved to Old Saybrook and continued their traveling activities.

Kathleen was predeceased by her husband Don, and is survived by a son Atty. Donald G. Leis Jr of Suffield; a daughter, Mary-Anne Gleason of Flagler Beach, FL; a daughter, Julie Leis of Niantic; five grandchildren, and a cousin Marjorie Virgil of South Bend, IN.

Kathleen's family will receive friends on Thursday from 9:15-10:15 a.m., at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St., Centerbrook, CT. , and the Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. John's RC Church, 161 Main St., Old Saybrook, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a memorial donation be made to either the Shoreline Visiting Nurses Assoc., 210 Main St. Old Saybrook, CT. 06475 or to the Shoreline Soup Kitchen, Box 804, Essex, CT. 06426.
