LYNN BYAM

Sept. 2, 1932 - Nov. 30, 2011
MISHAWAKA - Lynn P. Byam, 79, of Mishawaka and New Port Richey, FL, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 30th. Lynn was born in South Bend on September 2, 1932, to the late Lynn and Ida Mae (Prothero) Byam.

Lynn graduated from South Bend Central High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He married LaDean Beistle on June 12, 1954, in South Bend; they shared 51 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on June 24, 2005.

He was employed with the Bendix Corp. for over 20 years, and retired from Fed-Ex in 1987 after 20 years. He was a member of the South Bend Mannechor Club, American Legion Post 303, VFW Post 1167, Calvert Rod and Gun Club. He played Santa for many years at the Avalon Grotto, he belonged to the Moose Lodge, and was a former president at the Southeast Little League during the 60s and 70s. Lynn also volunteered for the Jerry Lewis Telethon. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame football, the Chicago Bears, the Tampa Bay Rays and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Though he loved all those teams, his greatest sports love was watching his grandkids at their softball games. He was very proud to be an American, Red, White, and Blue.

He is survived by his three children, Christie (Jeff) Janowski of Osceola, Connie Richmond of South Bend and Kenny (Susan) Byam of Ravenna, Ohio. He was a grandfather of five, Corrine Grenert, Robert Grenert Jr., Danny Byam, Kenneth Byam Jr. and Melissa Hollister. He was also a great-grandfather of seven.

He was preceded in death by a special granddaughter, Cortney Hollister, on April 29, 2011.

Friends may visit with the family on Monday, December 7th, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., from 3 until 6 pm. A service celebrating Lynn's life will be held in the funeral chapel at 6 pm. Memorial contributions may be made in Lynn's name to Hospice House of South Bend, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN, in memory of the care they showed his wife, LaDean; to Compassionate Friends, P.O. Box 3696, Oakbrook, IL 60522, in memory of his granddaughter, Cortney; or to Animal Control of South Bend because of his great love of animals.
