Gerald “Jerry” M. Works

Gerald “Jerry” M. Works passed on to eternal life on Saturday, November 26, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born in South Bend, Indiana on October 4, 1949.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Gillom Works (father), Allen Marie Works-Pawlicki (mother); Catrina Fields (daughter); Raymond Works (brother); and Dorothy (Works) Hetteson-Neal (sister).

Jerry is survived by his wife, Regina; son, Mathias; daughter Kona; stepchildren; sister, Bonnie; brother Carl; cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jerry confessed his belief in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a very early age as a member of St. Johns Missionary Church and lead a very Christ-centered life. His relationship with God has been a driving force throughout life with all he encountered.

He attended and graduated from South Bend, Central High School in 1969 where he served as senior class president. He was very active in his community and a strong supporter of the civil rights movement. After graduating high school, Jerry joined the US Marine Corps serving his country in Vietnam. Once his tour of duty was completed, he attended the University of Indiana receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. He was employed by the State of Michigan, Department of Correction, until his retirement.

His desire to support the community continued as a volunteer with the Department of the Navy Seals Cadet Program, and the Fort Custer National Cemetery Honor Guard. Jerry enjoyed being a member of the American Legion Post 257 and VFW.

Since leaving the military, Jerry continuously fought several illnesses due to his contact with Agent Orange while in Vietnam. But, he continued to be a great source of encouragement to all that came in contact with him.

To God be the Glory, for the things he has done.
