Terrence A. Niemier

Terrence Niemier, 74, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 3, 2022.

Terry was born April 20, 1948 in South Bend to the late Lucien and Mildred (Johnsen) Niemier.

Left to cherish the memory of Terry is his dedicated, loving wife of 23 years, Wanetta (Ostrander) Niemier; only child and daughter, Jody (Todd) Lentych; grandchildren, Parker & Kendall Lentych; step-children, Jenny (Rob) Tepper, Brian (Theresa) Vandygriff; step-grandchildren, Maggie, Emily & William Tepper, Megan & Victoria Vandygriff; sister, Mitzi (Pat) Heiden; and brother, Tom Niemier.

Terry was a patriot and man of service. It was with honor and pride for Terry to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps in active duty during the Vietnam War. Terry was an active fireman for the South Bend Fire Department for 11 years, selflessly putting himself in harms way to protect his community, until sustaining significant injuries. In later years, Terry continued his civil service to South Bend as a member of the South Bend Police Department until his retirement. He enjoyed the comradery of his fellow servicemen off duty as well as a member of the South Bend FOP Lodge #36. Terry often traveled to Potato Creek, where he was able to enjoy a lifelong love of fishing. Terry’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Private services have been held. St. Joseph Funeral Home is assisting the family.

In Lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org
