Dick proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era.

GRANGER – Richard M. “Dick” Walker, 85, of Granger passed away on Sunday July 9, 2017 at his residence. He was born on June 9, 1932 in South Bend, IN to the late Martin & Lucille (Klein) Walker.

On October 1956 in South Bend he married Toby Casper, she passed away in 1990. Dick later married Grayce Torry in 1993. He is survived by: his wife, Grayce Walker of Granger, son, Michael (Ronda) Walker of Oklahoma, step-sons; John Torry of Virginia and Matthew Torry of Hawaii, a sister, Shirley (Craig) Grauel of South Bend, niece, Jill O’Hara of St. Charles, IL and nephew, Max Fair of Shelby, MI. Dick was preceded in death by: his parents, his first wife Toby Walker and a brother Ray Walker. Per Dick’s wishes there will be no visitation or services. Cremation has taken place.

He graduated from Central High School in South Bend. Dick proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era. He was a former professional golfer at Morris Park Country Club in South Bend, he began his career in 1966, became head professional in 1970 and later retired in 2001.

Dick began entering the professional golf industry in 1951, where he began as a Caddy Master at the South Bend Country Club under the direction of John Watson. He quickly became an Assistant there and earned many awards throughout his tenure. Walker has chaired numerous PGA committees. He earned the PGA Golf Professional of the year in 1976 and 1992, he won the Indiana PGA Bill Strasbaugh Award for work in club relations and employment. He was also inducted in the Indiana Golf Hall of Fame.

Memorial contributions may be given to help Parkinson’s Research and the Center for Hospice of St. Joseph County. Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with his arrangements.
